The following works have been commissioned or created in close collaboration between the artist and the gallery—often involving years of development. Inspired in part by the Afterall One Work series, this close attention also reenacts my memories of barely emerging from heated six hour crits devoted to a single work in Professor Willem de Rooij’s rigourous classroom. One by one, he would probe us, “What do you see?”
Central to the gallery’s mission is a commitment to supporting an artist’s work over time—offering them structure, space, and feedback to take chances and explore new directions. Once the work is realized, we invite select writers and critics to produce close readings. Like Against Value—our salon-style art school for collectors—this growing body of discourse serves to situate the artists we show within the lineages that shape them.
