We sourced the syllabus by asking for our artists’ most influential “1 text & 3 artworks.” Some protested, arguing against superlatives, or opting rather for cliques, eras/cities. However, inspired by the desire to deconstruct what and why an artwork, in its materiality, is important—whether as a product of the artist/auteur, or of the times—our series will review single works in depth.
